Brian Hooks Man on Street With Revision

  1. Hindsight is always 20-20, as the cliche goes, and with that in mind I wish I would have made more time to get interviews with the classic, opinionated sportsheads who never turn off ESPN. Two of the people I interviewed had definite opinions, but they didn't have any specific details or elaborate explanations as to WHY they felt the way they do.

I did speak off the record to a football player about Friedgen, but he didn't want to be paraphrased or recorded -if I had pressed more, or searched for other players (perhaps seniors), I may have found something real juicy a.k.a. "good bait."

Additionally, I read many blog posts and saw the news releases as soon as Friedgen's rehiring hit the Web Tuesday, so with more preparation I could have narrated some of the great opinions on the Web, or even contacted the writers and recorded some audio.

Technically, my narration sound quality is obviously better than my recorder's audio, which can be distracting, but there aren't any background or handling noises. I will be using a different recorder soon, so hopefully the formatting problems will be avoided. Also, I only had one background audio clip, which was of the football player laughing at the "no comment" statement of one interviewee. I couldn't really figure out a relevant source of background for this topic, but with more time I may have integrated some audio from a recent tv interview with Friedgen (attributed, of course) or recorded some audio from practice (if they are practicing right now, I have no clue).

Considering it is a campus-located piece, I think I did a decent job of including a diverse group of students AND diverse opinions; this easily could have turned into a college version of PTI or Around The Horn, but I wanted to relate to how everyday students feel about the team. We are, after all, the ones supporting this school financially AND filling the seats at Byrd, Comcast and Ludwig...
